Class Offerings

WAX WEDNESDAYS

Come learn a new skill with us at the Mettle and Silver Studio. We are offering a beginner’s wax carving class with the goal of introducing students to the art of hard wax carving, with a focus on creating ring shapes and basic stone settings that can be cast into metal. By the end of the course, students will gain a solid foundation in working with wax as a material, understanding its strengths and limitations, and learning basic techniques to take their designs from concept to cast metal pieces.

Info

  • Our Wax Wednesday class costs $400 with class size limited, paying for the class reserves your spot!
  • There is no metalsmith or sculpting experience necessary to join our classes, we are beginner friendly.
  • Our classes are 4, 4 hour long sessions that meet Wednesday nights at 6pm
  • Our studio is located on the second floor with one flight of stairs.

Schedule

We begin classes with hands on introductions to tools such as files, jeweler’s saws, and measuring implements all with the goal of completing your project and building confidence to continue this creative endeavor on your own.

Through each session we will make progress taking blank blocks of wax through the process of measuring, reducing, and shaping to transform wax into wearable rings. In addition to the carving process, we will also explore the lost wax casting technique as well as considerations for using third party casting services.

Our desire is for each student to leave this class with at least one completed piece, and to ensure this we will host studio hours outside of the weekly lessons that will be announced during the session.
